Destructive Bad Guys ALWAYS have Followers!!

Why is it that there are certain evil doers in the Fantasy or SyFy realms that continue to have followers and supporters? Even though, they plan on total Destruction or the absolute ending of everything? I mean what good is it if the planet is blown up? What is good about the sun going supernova and destroying everything in the galaxy or multi-universe? Why is it great to have the world in fire, ash, and chaos where nothing will grow? I’m not exactly sure, but here’s a couple of examples where that is the case. And guess what? They have people, not only supporting them, but trying to help them hurry it up.

TheNeverEndingStory-Wolf

Gmork the Wolf

I wanted to start with a classic film: The NeverEnding Story! One of the best films ever made in any genre. In this film, the “evil doer” is actually a force called The Nothing. The Nothing is a mixture of storms ravaging and destroying the world called Fantasia. Now, The Nothing’s mission is to actually rip apart the world until it’s just pieces of rock floating through space. Clearly a storm can’t have a follower, but we’re wrong. In this timeless film, the supporter is the crazy wolf that tries to kill the boy hero, Atreyu. Want to be a wolf and hunt and kill? Yeah, but only one more time, cause then it’s on to Absolutely Nothing.

WillofAgora-EadonDarkElf

Eadon Dark Elf

This next tale is a newer series I’ve read. The series is called The Legends of Agora. In this tale there is an elf who lives forever and he invents a prophecy so he can purposely fulfill it and become a god. Eventually, he changes from a normal elf to Eadon the evil Dark Elf. What’s got me so mixed up is, this guy has lived for eternity so far. He is responsible for making all of the elves leave their homeland and travel to another one because he wrecked it. Now, he’s trying to do the same thing to the human homeland.

What’s got me so confused is that all of these followers, they’ve already seen what he did to their own land. Now, they’re watching him do it to the rest of the lands. Wouldn’t you think that maybe one of these dark elves, just ONE lone dark elf, would say, “ahh crap, he’s done it there and now doing it here. There just won’t be anything left.” And then others maybe start agreeing like, “oh yeah!” But alas, NO! They are oblivious to the completely obvious factors of what’s played out before them already.

Saving the best for last, we come to J.R.R Tolkien’s ultimate Bad Guy – Sauron. In The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Sauron is an enslaved spirit who can’t fully access the physical world, due to losing the ring of power. However in The Hobbit, the ring is found and Sauron is slowly making his comeback. He is pooling all of his resources and gathering a giant army unto himself in the Land of Mordor.

LandofMordor

Land of Mordor

Now, have you seen Mordor? Have you pictured it in your mind? Have you seen Peter Jackson’s adaptation of it? It’s full of fire, ash and lots and lots and lots of rock. Mount Doom stands tall within a gray, rocky, barren wasteland. Now, when the rest of the land is destroyed and evil turns upon itself, my question is, what then? These followers are so ignorant and hell bent on death and destruction, they don’t realize that it leads to their own as well.

GameOfThronesThrone

The Iron Throne

It’s easy to see why such follower would be found on new favorite, Game of Thrones, or even the classic cult favorite, Star Wars. Most of the people fighting for the kingdom in Game of Thrones would like the throne, but still wants the land intact. So, too, does the Emperor and his Empire in Star War. The Emperor want absolute power and control over the trillions of worlds and peoples. But in each of these, neither wants everything destroyed. They want everything intact, so that they can be in total control. I guess you would say it’s a little easier to have followers, since they could have families and children and they know that ALL of life isn’t ending, it’s just under stricter militant order. Yet, followers the previous stories bad guys do have. Helping them on a crash course to the end of everything.

Keeping it the Realest, I’m J.C. Hooker!
