Having been an atheist most of my life, I’ve always been able to see and have different viewpoints on religion. Especially those concerning angels, demons, the devil, etc. etc. I have read the Bible 3 times and agree there are many good points. I have also read the 370’ish poem, Paradise Lost, by John Milton. I’ve always wondered if all of this was fact, what would the war in Heaven have been like? Angels fighting each other, God throwing Satan down into the Abyss. I was really excited when Legion came out in 2010. I thought it was going to be another horror movie, but imagine my surprise when all those creepy people were being invaded, not by demons, but by angels. And they wanted to exact punishment on mankind.
Fast Forward to 2014. Enter the Dominion. I thought, oh great, no really, ANOTHER post-apocalyptic show. I mean, we’re running pretty strong with these now. The Walking Dead, Defiance, Dominion, The Last Ship, Falling Skies. It had me from the get go. I was intrigued by the spinoff attempt that Scott Stewart was taking here. Basing a tv show off a popular movie, somewhat genius. However, I thought, it’s hard to get unknown tv actors to pull this off as well as the bigger movie star names. Paul Bettany actually made me believe he was the Archangel Michael. Shedding wings and immortality to save us all. I’m gonna say, to this point, I haven’t been as moved by Tom Wisdom. I think Gabrielle’s character has been played great in both tv and movie, but I’m not as moved by Dominion’s Michael. The boy who was born to save mankind though, is on point as being SyFy’s new tv hero. Loyal, Sensitive, and Sincere, he gets an A from me on taking the show as his own.
Secondly, I think the game-changer for this show: Angels! I mean seriously, not pretty angels that rescue you at just the right moment angels. Friggin, you’re a human and you squandered Father’s (GOD) love. We will make you all pay, fury and wrathful angels. I think the show deserves 4 seasons, just don’t know if it can go the distance to be a great show. It started good, but the sophomore season will have to be GREAT.
